My PA License and Rich’s PA License had arrived!

2012 — A year of celebration

This year has just begun and already it is very exciting for medica.

During 2012, I will be celebrating 20 years of massage therapy in Gibsonia, PA.

I can still remember the day when my accountant came over to finalize some paperwork. I noticed he was counting the ceiling tiles from back to front. I was curious and asked, “What are you doing?” He answered, “Getting an estimate of your square footage.” Pressing further, I asked questions about the estimate and different items about the lease. He answered it had more to do with estimating how much I would have to make each month to stay in business.

Once we had reached the front of the office, he turned to me and flatly stated, “Well, Beverly looking at everything I think your first year is going to very hard. Each time you turn the key in your door, you better be prepared to make $xxx amount of money. If you make it past two years, I’d say you’re lucky. And if you are in business five years from now, I would say you can consider this business a success.”

I didn’t stay with this accountant very long. I prefer to have a more positive outlook when obtaining goals.

So here we are — 20 years later — many lessons learned; many days filled with happiness; brainstorming ideas; always looking for healing services; meeting wonderful clients; learning and growing.

I have turned that key over 24,000 times!

I have never wondered about how much money I would make that day. I have enjoyed what medica does best — heal, help, restore, expand and maintain a sacred space.

I am very grateful today as I write this post. Grateful is actually not an adequate word.

Thank you to all who have walked through medica’s door. May medica’s key be turned 20 more years!

How medica was named

Oh good, you were curious about medica’s name! Thanks for visiting. It all is part of a dream I had. There was a time about 20 years ago, where I knew all things in my life were about to change. All for the good, and yet, some were creating apprehension in my being. There were questions, many questions swirling around in my head. Just what would all these changes mean to me and to my family. I remember this as if it were just yesterday. There are times when I am in my massage room and this all comes clearly back to me. It all begins about 6:00 pm at night. I was going about the normal everyday things you do. Getting dinner ready, checking on the food cooking and listening to Rick and the two boys in the living room. There came a sense around me as if I was not there by myself. The more I relaxed and allowed this feeling, the more I was certain something spiritual was beside me. As it often happens in life, I felt this for a moment and moved on with the dinner and home life. Then again, when getting ready for sleep I felt the same feeling. This time I thought to myself, “Whoever you are whatever you are, if you are here to help me, I will accept.” And this is how it happened for me. Do you remember when you were a child and you knew sleep was coming is such a wonderful way. As if the most comfortable and calming cover was coming up over your shoulders and head to close your eyes into a restful sleep. I remember this sleep and always look forward to again in my life. This is how I was falling asleep this night. I had this dream. In the dream all the questions and problems of this change were presenting in front of me. I could feel my apprehension growing and my mind wanting to see what to do. It felt as if this would go on forever. Then I was in a forest. It was filled with gigantic trees and huge ferns. The sunlight beamed itself through the trees striking the ground with warming light. Looking around was most amazing and I relaxed. It reminded me of a small fir tree stand my sisters and I used to walk through at Shawnee before getting to a lake. We believed they were full of magic. This felt like Shawnee and I started to walk. And then there she was. Standing there in front of me. No more than a mere child and yet so brilliant. The sunlight was all around her and she smiled. “Hello”, she said, “it’s me.” “I know”, I answered. I didn’t know how I knew her, but she was most familiar to me. As if we had never parted. She reached out her small hand to me and I gladly took it. “We need to walk this way.” I followed without question. I can’t remember everything along this path, but I can remember how I felt. It was if my heart opened and my ears heard and eyes saw. There was nothing that wasn’t understood or unaccepted. When we stopped she turned again to me and asked, “Do you understand?” I nodded yes. “Can you help?” I nodded yes. “Are you ready?” I nodded yes. “Then it is time.” She let go of my hand and smiled. “Good! Do you need to ask me anything?” I said that I did because I was curious. I told her that when I saw her in the forest she looked so familiar, but I didn’t understand why or who she really was. What was her name? ”My name is ma-dee-ka. You and I are part of this and I am coming to you. There will be many things we do together.” I have never doubted her. It was from that dream on that everything fell into its place. It continues to do so. ma-dee-ka is always there inside me and around me. She is the best of who we are and the love we desire. She is the answer to questions that won’t let us rest and the dreams our hearts can fulfill. ma-dee-ka is that pure light that shines through everything if we accept. ma-dee-ka is eternity. So I looked in this earthly place for the closest thing to her name. I took a thesaurus and was scanning the pages, thinking where are you, where are you, want should it be? I stopped at medica. It sounded familiar. Then I read the words surrounding medica. medica means the healing arts. I didn’t think I could get much closer to her. It seemed right. So many times people have asked why medica is in all small letters. It isn’t proper or doesn’t make sense to the business world. It’s because she is a small child, yet powerful and expansive. She doesn’t need anything proper to carry all things into the universe. I honor this each day and night. She is a living dream, ma-dee-ka. I protect her with my heart and hold her close to my soul. I have even had another small girl child ask me, “Do you know your name is redundant? medica means the healing arts. So all people are saying is the healing arts, the healing arts.” I nodded yes.

Welcome to our space to discuss the topics important to you. This past year has brought many changes to our facility and the services we offer. Besides therapeutic massage, we offer sessions of gua sha, shiatsu, reflexology, hypnosis, LaStone, hot stone, reiki, energy and chakra healing. Breath work, yoga and soul memory work sessions are offered throughout the week and Saturdays. In the Fall, we will be offering aqua detox sessions with oxygen-enhanced aromatherapy. We compliment massage sessions with medica majik aromatherapy sprays. So join us and let us know about you and what sessions you are interested in using for your well-being and health.

Hypnosis is back

Two weeks ago, Rich and I spent seven days, 11 hours each, obtaining my re-certification in hypnosis. It was an intense and informative time! I have learned so much more than I did during the last certification process! I am aware of several more inductions and interventions that can help create change in everyone’s life. There are so many misconceptions regarding hypnosis. People either are interested or fearful. In the coming month, I will be working closely with clients that have already expressed an interest in hypnosis sessions. In August, Rich and I will offer the first of many information sessions at medicafor anyone who would like to know more about hypnosis and begin using it in their lives. Hypnosis is successful for weight reduction, smoke cessation, sleep deprivation, stress managment and much more. As always, I am interested in educating you to help yourself with a healing process. Rich and I will be teaching you self-hypnosis practices. This way, you are able to re-enforce positive change in your life. I’m excited about hypnosis being back at medica. I know it can help people have the life they dream. There are times when people are fearful of hypnosis because they feel they will lose control. You are always in control during the session. Did you know that most people are hypnotized 7 to 10 times each day? You are sometimes hypnotized while driving. have you ever driven from point A to point B and have not really been aware the entire time you where driving? all of the sudden you are at your destination. That’s a form hypnosis. You are aware of your driving, you stay in control of your car and know when to take your exit. You aren’t out of control at anytime. And yet your mind was off thinking or daydreaming of something else and did not keep in the moment of driving each mile. Hypnosis is a lot like this.
